Joseph R. Auriemma, Jr. (INCI, CFI)
Joseph Auriemma, Jr., INCI, CFI, brings over twenty-four years of experience with the New York State Police, retiring as a Senior Investigator. In this role, he supervised all criminal investigations conducted by the five Investigators and twenty-five uniform troopers at his station.

Throughout his tenure with the New York State Police, Joseph worked as a uniform Trooper and a “backroom” investigator; he spent two years assigned to a Child Advocacy Center conducting investigations into crimes against children and worked six years in the Major Crimes Unit investigating homicides, suspicious deaths, and other serious crimes. Over seventeen years within the Bureau of Criminal Investigations, Joseph skillfully conducted thousands of interviews and interrogations, making substantial contributions to the investigations and their successful prosecutions.
Joseph has been a certified polygraph examiner since 2015 and was one of two Regional Coordinators responsible for overseeing the New York State Police Polygraph Unit and its thirty-nine examiners. He created and developed a comprehensive enhancement of the criminal and pre-employment examination testing framework, including establishing a new quality control program.
Joseph's expertise in curriculum and training development was honed during his distinguished career with the State Police. He served as the lead instructor at the New York State Police Academy for Investigative Interviewing, Crisis Negotiation, and both the Basic and Advanced Search Warrant courses. His role extended to the New York State Preparedness Training Center, where he made significant contributions in areas such as Investigative Interviewing, Search Warrants, Cellular Phone Analysis, and Crisis Negotiation.
Joseph developed a resource guide for all sworn members of the New York State Police to use when conducting criminal investigations. The interactive guide provided members with information and templates for cellular phone investigations, social media investigations, financial investigations, search warrants, school emergency responses, missing and runaway investigations, and more. In May 2019, Joseph received the George M. Searle Memorial Award, an award presented to individuals who have distinguished themselves in training and education within the State Police.
Joseph's journey in the law enforcement and investigative arena is marked by a significant milestone: He has been the affiant on over 2,500 search warrants and court orders. This extensive experience isn't just a number; it represents countless hours of meticulous work, deep legal understanding, and a steadfast commitment to justice. Each case, from the most straightforward to the most complex, has sharpened his skills and deepened his resolve to uncover the truth.
Among his professional achievements, one stands out for its global impact and revolutionary contribution to law enforcement methodologies. During a complex homicide investigation, Joseph uncovered an anomaly: a critical piece of data was missing. This discovery led to the development of what is now known as the Tombstone Report from Google. This tool, born out of necessity and honed through rigorous investigative work, offers a comprehensive way to access vital information that was previously unavailable. Joseph's role in this development was not just about solving a single case but changing how law enforcement agencies worldwide approach their investigations. Today, the Tombstone Report is an indispensable global asset to law enforcement agencies, thanks to the groundwork laid during that investigation.
In addition to his standing as a Certified Forensic Interviewer (CFI), Joseph achieved the distinction of becoming an International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST) Nationally Certified Instructor (INCI). This prestigious recognition is reserved for individuals with an unwavering commitment to excellence in delivering criminal justice training. He is also certified as a New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services Instructor for Police Topics.
